Frequently Asked Questions

How does Chemwash differ from regular pressure washing?

Chemwash is a low-pressure, environmentally friendly cleaning method that uses a specialised solution to safely remove dirt, mould, and mildew. Unlike traditional pressure washing, which can be harsher on surfaces, Chemwash provides a gentle yet effective clean. This method minimises the damage to paint and other external surface of your home yet delivers a highly effective clean.

How does Chemwash ensure Wellington homes get the best possible care?

Many Wellington homes are located in hard to clean and reach locations. We use drone technology for precise quoting and thorough quality audits, ensuring accuracy and excellence in every job. Our team understands Wellington’s climate, which allows us to offer tailored services, including working at heights, managing sea salt build-up, and removing moss and lichen from damp pedestrian pathways.

What guarantees do you offer?

We guarantee top-quality service with fully trained operators and adherence to strict Health and Safety Policies. Our workmanship and your satisfaction are assured, supported by a comprehensive health and safety programme.

Will my property or building get damaged during the cleaning process?

The Chemwash™ process uses low pressure, significantly less water pressure than traditional water blasting, which reduces the risk of damage. The pressure is often less than that from a garden tap, minimising the risk of surface damage.

Why should I choose Chemwash over other exterior house cleaning services in Wellington?

With over 35 years of experience, Chemwash is a family-owned business renowned for personalised service and exceptional results. We pride ourselves on the long-term relationships we’ve built with clients who trust our expertise and process. High-quality results have always been our guarantee.

Are Chemwash Exterior Cleaning services safe for my pets?

Yes! Our detergents are designed to be safe for use around both pets and people. That said, it is still best if pets are kept inside while we are cleaning your property. If we are spray-treating cobbles or driveways, it’s also recommended to keep pets off the affected areas until it dries.

Is Chemwash safe for my garden and outdoor entertaining areas?

Yes, Chemwash detergents are safe for plants and outdoor areas. The product we use is specifically designed to avoid harming your plants, and any overspray that might land on foliage is minimal. While we’re confident our detergent won’t affect your plants, we understand wanting extra peace of mind. To ensure full protection, you can create a simple ‘vapour barrier’ by watering your garden before we arrive and rinsing it again once we’re done. If you’re unable to do this yourself, just let us know—we’d be happy to take care of it for you!

Will Chemwash help with moss and lichen on my paths and driveways?

Yes, Chemwash effectively removes moss, lichen, and other organic growth from hard surfaces, helping to keep them clean and safe.

Why should I choose professional exterior house cleaning over DIY?

Professional exterior cleaning ensures a thorough, safe, and efficient job using specialised equipment and techniques. DIY cleaning often leads to subpar results and potential damage due to inadequate training and technique, including chipped paint, scratches, or water damage. Improper use of equipment and chemicals can also pose health risks. Investing in professional cleaning is a smart choice to protect and maintain your property’s value.

What can I expect for communications from the Chemwash team?

After you book a quote online or by phone, our quoting team will reach out to schedule a convenient time to inspect your property. During the inspection, we’ll provide any specific details related to your property or cladding type.

Once you accept the quote, we’ll confirm a booking time, which you can adjust if needed. You’ll also receive a reminder the day before the scheduled service.

How can I prepare for the service?

Please ensure all windows are tightly shut, washing is off the line, and pets are secured or kept away. For older windows, place towels on the sill to catch any potential water intrusion. The same applies to older doors with gaps—placing towels underneath is recommended.

Now that my property is washed, is there anything else I can do to help maintain it?

We recommend applying a barrier treatment for spiders, insects, and flies annually which we can also provide if needed. If you have an ant problem, consult us for a specific ant control treatment.

Can I schedule a regular home exterior cleaning service?

Yes! All you need to do, is just ask our team for our set and forget cleaning schedule. They will be able to advise on the best frequency and maintenance programme, and set a regular reminder and schedule to ensure your home is always protected for adverse weather conditions. Learn more about our annual maintenance plans, how it works and how we can provide you with peace of mind today!

What about my paintwork?

If your paint is in good condition, it should not flake off. Although we will try to be as careful as possible to avoid this, particularly if there is existing flaking or paint bubbles, some paint may come off during the cleaning.  We will notify you if we notice any issues when inspecting the property.

Can I combine Chemwash with other home maintenance services?

Yes, many homeowners opt to bundle services for convenience and efficiency, helping to keep your home and outdoor areas in top shape.

Is my property too big or too small for Chemwash to handle?

No job is too big or too small for Chemwash. Whether you have a tall building, multi-site properties, or a smaller structure like a shed or wall, we are equipped to handle projects of all sizes. We apply the same dedication and high standards of quality to every job, ensuring exceptional results.

Is Chemwash a locally owned business?

Yes, Chemwash is a family-owned business with deep roots in the Wellington community, serving homeowners since 1990.

What environmental practices do you employ and are your products safe for the environment?

We care about our precious planet and do everything in our power to protect it.  In fact, Chemwash was the first exterior cleaning company to use environmentally safe detergents and thankfully, plenty of others have now followed suit. Our services and products not only lift dirt and grime from surfaces but are also 100% safe for use around animals and plants. We also ensure that any water run-off is returned to the environment by using water redirection practices and sediment filtration systems whenever necessary.

Do you use sustainable practices?

Yes, we reduce, reuse and recycle whatever we can, provided it doesn’t impact our Health and Safety Practices. Our office has separated recycling, and we give our second-hand electrical equipment to the Hospice.
